Rail Explorer Pass Conditions

Pass Conditions

  • Passes must be validated within 6 months of the date the pass is issued.
  • Travel must be completed within 6 months of the validation date on the pass.
  • Rail Explorer passes cannot be purchased or used by residents of Australia.
  • You cannot board a train without a reservation.
  • Your Rail Explorer pass is valid for Red service seats and Red Service Daynighter accomoodation only.
  • Upgrades can be made for sleepers when making reservations.
  • Upgrades must be purchased in addition to the pass and are subject to availability.
  • The pass is subject to a fuel price surcharge per sector booked on The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The Overland.
  • Reservations must be made prior to 24 hours before the trains departure.
  • This pass is valid for travel on the Great Southern Rail Network only.
  • Passport numbers and dates of birth are required.

 

Pass Refunds

  • Validated passes are non refundable.
  • Unused or validated passes must be submitted to International Rail within 12 months of the date issued.
  • A minimum cancellation fee of 25% for pass applies for approved refunds.

 

Reissuing Passes

  • Lost passes can be reissued.
  • A 25% reissue fee will apply.
