Pass Conditions

  • This will be an e-voucher and is not valid for travel. You must exchange this voucher for a rail pass at an ViaRail station.
  • Tickets must be purchase prior to 5 days before the first travel date.
  • Travel must begin within one year of the date the pass is issued.
  • You must nominate a start date.
  • Supersaver - Must be purchased no later than 3 days prior to your first date of travel.
  • Discounted - Can be pruchase no later than 1 day prior to your first date of travel.
  • Canrail passes can be purchased and used by residents of Canada.
  • You cannot board a train without a reservation.
  • Your Canrail pass is valid for economy class seats only.
  • Upgrades are not permitted. (including for sleepers)
  • Passholder accommodation is limited.
  • Passes do not cover the Rocky Mountaineer.

Restrictions

During the peak summer season, an upgrade to Silver & Blue class (between Vancouver and Toronto) and to Totem and Totem Deluxe classes (between Prince Rupert and Jasper) can only be arranged within the 21 days prior to departure.

Peak season: June 1 to October 15 inclusive.

 

Children

  • One infant (under the age of 2) can travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult (16 years of age and older).
  • 50% discount for children ages 2-15

 

Pass Refunds

  • Passes must be presented for refund unused and with all tickets issued against the card have been surrendered.
  • Unused tickets must be returned marked "cancelled" by a VIA rail official

Once a Canrail pass has been used it is totally non-refundable.

A minimum cancellation fee of 25% for pass applies for approved refunds. .

Once e-vouchers have been exchanged, lost or stolen passes are not refundable and cannot be replaced-
