Canrail Pass Conditions

BASE PASS CONDITIONS

ROUTES

  • The Canrailpass ‒ System entitles you to 7 or 10 one-way trips (also referred to as credits) across Canada.

CLASS OF SERVICE

  • The Canrailpass ‒ System is valid for travel in Economy class only.

TRAVEL PERIOD

  • The Canrailpass ‒ System is valid for 60 consecutive days from the first date of travel.
  • The first date of travel (which marks the start of the pass validity period) must be selected at time of purchase.

EXCHANGES AND REFUNDS

The Canrailpass ‒ System can be exchanged or cancelled prior to departure without 25% penalty, provided that:

  • The pass has not expired.
  • No trips have been made using the pass.
  • No tickets booked with the pass have been cancelled after the scheduled departure of the train.

Once a trip has been made or a ticket purchased using the Canrailpass ‒ System has been cancelled after the scheduled departure of the train, the pass becomes completely non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

  • Tickets booked using a Canrailpass ‒ System may be cancelled at any time prior to the scheduled departure of the train, in which case the credit will be refunded to the pass.

Tickets purchased using a Canrailpass ‒ System can be exchanged subject to the following conditions:

  • For travel on the same date but on board a different train, tickets must be exchanged prior to the scheduled departure time of the original train, and the new ticket must also be booked in the applicable fare category, in keeping with the Canrailpass ‒ System (i.e. according to which the pass was purchased).
  • For travel using a Canrailpass ‒ System on a date other than that of the original booking, the new ticket must also be booked in the applicable fare category, in keeping with the Canrailpass ‒ System credits.

Please note that your initial booking must be cancelled prior to the departure time of the original train.

TRANSFERABILITY

  • Canrailpass ‒ System credits are strictly non-transferable and are valid for travel solely by the person in whose name the Canrailpass ‒ System had been issued.
  • Verification is automated and the first and last names of the travelling passenger must match both the first and last names provided at the time the Canrailpass ‒ System was purchased.

OTHER CONDITIONS

  • Validity of the Canrailpass ‒ System is automatically tracked. No voucher or other document is required for exchange at time of ticket issuance or booking.
  • The Canrailpass ‒ System cannot be combined with any other discount or promotion.
  • One complimentary stopover (a break in the journey of 4 hours or more) per one-way trip is allowed at no additional charge. The stopover applies when the passenger travels in the same booking class and in the same class of service.
  • Other conditions may apply.

EXTRA PASS CONDITIONS

ROUTES

  • The Canrailpass ‒ System entitles you to 7 or 10 one-way trips (also referred to as credits) across Canada.

CLASS OF SERVICE

  • The Canrailpass Extra is valid for travel in Economy class only.
  • Upgrades to higher classes of service are permitted: credits may alternatively be applied towards a one-time 25% discount on the best available Business fare for a one-way trip (where service is offered).

TRAVEL PERIOD

  • The Canrailpass Extra is valid for 21 consecutive days from the first date of travel.
  • The first date of travel (which marks the starts of the pass validity period) must be selected at time of purchase.

EXCHANGES AND REFUNDS

A Canrailpass is refundable and exchangeable, less a $100 service charge (plus applicable taxes), provided:

  • The pass has not expired.
  • No trips have been made using the pass.
  • No tickets booked with the pass have been cancelled after the scheduled departure of the train.
  • Once a trip has been made or a ticket purchased using the Canrailpass has been cancelled after the scheduled departure of the train, the pass becomes completely non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
  • Tickets booked using a Canrailpass Extra may be cancelled at any time prior to the scheduled departure of the train, in which case the credit will be refunded to the pass.
  • Tickets purchased using a Canrailpass Extra can be exchanged subject to the following conditions:
  • For travel on the same date but on board a different train, tickets must be exchanged prior to the scheduled departure time of the original train, and the new ticket must also be booked in the applicable fare category, in keeping with the Canrailpass (i.e. according to which the pass was purchased).
  • For travel using a Canrailpass Extra on a date other than that of the original booking, the new ticket must also be booked in the applicable fare category, in keeping with the Canrailpass Extra (i.e. according to which the pass was purchased).
  • Please note that your initial booking must be cancelled prior to the scheduled departure time of the original train.

  • Canrailpass Extra credits are strictly non-transferable and are valid only for the person in whose name the Canrailpass Extra was issued.
  • Verification is automated, and the first and last names of the travelling passenger must match those provided at the time the Canrailpass Extra was purchased.

  • Holders of a Canrailpass  Extra have access to the Business lounges upon presentation of a valid boarding pass for confirmed same-day travel.
  • One complimentary stopover (a break in the journey of 4 hours or more) per one-way trip is allowed at no additional charge. The stopover applies when the passenger travels in the same booking class and in the same class of service.
